If you missed my previous posts in this series – I asked – do you see some of the terms relating to food being thrown around lately and wonder what the “beep” they mean?
Me too. So I thought I would do a series of very short posts on these to explain!
This week – we will talk about:
What is Oil Pulling?
Oil pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic ritual where you swish oil (generally coconut) around in your mouth to help detoxify your body. The oil acts as a cleaner – “pulling” bacteria out of your teeth and gums. It’s believed to give you whiter teeth, healthier gums, reduce asthma severity, give you better skin, help you sleep, as well a whole heap of other benefits.
It is best done first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, for at least ten (some people advocate twenty) minutes.
I haven’t tried oil pulling, but it does intrigue me (although at the moment I don’t have twenty minutes spare in the morning…unless I get up at 4.30am).
I would love to hear from anyone who has tried it to see what they think!
