I used to love jam, but when I reduced the amount of sugar in my diet (and started reading labels!!) I realized how bad it is for you! Jam is packed full of sugar – even the “reduced sugar” varieties have around 32% sugar content.
It’s also full of all sorts of “fake” stuff, such as – preservative (202), mineral salt (509) and color (124). The first two are not great, but not as bad as the “color” (naturally this one changes with the type of jam), which is a suspected carcinogen. Eww!
So here is a version you can make in your Thermomix (or food processor) that is much healthier for you and is just as yummy. It was inspired by Wholefoods Simply.
If you would like to know more about preservatives in food, see the links above or visit The Trusted Trolley.
- 200g frozen fruit (organic if possible)
- 20g chia seeds
- 30-40g rice malt syrup (depending on personal taste)
- Place all ingredients in the thermomix. Blend on speed 7 for 10 to 15 seconds.
- Store in an airtight container in the fridge (it will thicken after an hour or so).
And that’s it!
∗ Freeze fruits that are in season to use later (chop first so you can just throw into the mix).
