Think back to what you were doing on the last day of December 2014…maybe celebrating the coming year with friends…or maybe even just sitting on the couch, wine in hand…
Wherever you were and whatever you were doing, chances are the discussion turned to something like this…
“So what changes do you want to make in 2015? What’s your New Year’s resolution?”
Maybe you replied with “get healthier”, “exercise more”, “quit smoking” or something along those lines (bonus points though if you decided on adventures to do instead, and referenced my post on no new years resolutions!).
But then what happened? Let me guess…life got in the way?
Well lately I’ve been alerted to a great website that will help you achieve your goals – however if you don’t, charity is the winner! It’s called Promise or Pay.
What is Promise or Pay?
Promise or Pay ‘s vision is to inspire millions of people to be the best they can be and at the same time encourage donations to Australian charities. In their words:
“We believe that one promise can make a huge difference and that personal promises can drive real, wide-scale social change.
On Promise or Pay’s website you can register your promise and select a charity of choice you will donate an amount to if you break the promise. Friends can support you and pledge a donation if you keep the promise.
Your promise is shared across social media to help encourage you to keep going – and inspire others to make more positive promises!
How does Promise or Pay work?
It’s pretty easy:
- Visit their website
- Make your promise, select your charity and the amount you will donate if you don’t stick to it
- Share your promise and encourage others to support to and make a donation if you keep your promise
- Then comes crunch time – if you break your promise, you make the donation. If you keep your promise, your supporters make the donation!
Will it really help me keep my promises?
I definitely think so – you know if you tell someone about your goals you’re more likely to do it right? Telling nobody means it’s pretty easy to forget about it!
“Did you know that research shows the chance of achieving a goal increases 33% if it is shared with others and by 72% if money is put on the line?”
That’s a pretty crazy statistic! Having people to be accountable to significantly increases the chances of you sticking to your promise. I think it’s also nice to have someone to share your challenges and success with as you go along, isn’t it?
To find out more and get inspired (and maybe make a promise…!), head to their website.
What do you think – perhaps this is great way to start off your 2016, start thinking now about something you want to change, set yourself a goal for the coming new year (it’s only 9 or so weeks away people!) and make the promise!
You can even suggest a promise to a friend…help make some positive changes for those around you! Or even just inspire someone to step outside of their comfort zone. You never know what that might start in their lives!
Let us know your promises below! Share yours and I’ll share mine… :)
