Firstly welcome to my blog and thank you for visiting! A little bit about me…
I live in beautiful Perth, WA and am a mum to 2 gorgeous girls under 3 (33 months and 17 months) who have completely changed my life in the most positive way (although sometimes at 3am you forget that!). I love spending time with my friends and family, long breakfasts, a coffee or a cuppa, getting outdoors in the sunshine (especially in my garden), my thermomix, chatting about plans to rule the world and a nice glass of vino or champers (FYI there is a multiplier effect as you add them together!).
Ok, ok those that know me are saying you forgot something…I also love anything relating to being organised and spreadsheets (I am an accountant, after all). There I said it.
Since becoming a mum I have been on somewhat of a “journey” (sorry to use that word!) with my general health and wellbeing. As a result I’ve made some changes that have really had a positive impact. I still have a long way to go but so far so good!
So what have I changed?
Simple Living (or stressing less!): since having the girls I’ve been transformed from a crazy “to do” person (i.e. multiple lists of things to do, constantly reevaluating said lists – creating lists about lists) who said she was “relaxing” when sitting in front of the TV with a book to my left, notepad and pen on my right and IPad in my hand – to someone who tries to enjoy the little moments in life and take time out to just be!
Ok so I still have some lists. But they are smaller. And take longer to cross off. Realisation: I’m still here and the world hasn’t ended!
I still have a long way to go here…but I’m working on it!
Wholefoods Diet & Lifestyle: I made the decision to “quit sugar” a couple of years ago and that had an extremely positive impact on my health! Since then I’ve been experimenting with all sorts of different things I never thought I would, such as bone broth and fermented foods like kombucha. I’m still working through what makes me feel the best – but it’s fun getting there! I don’t label the way I eat and I don’t like it when people do!
Saving the planet: I’ve started really thinking about our impact on the environment, how much waste we produce and how disposable our society is. I want my girls to understand we leave a footprint on the planet and I also want there to be a healthy planet for them to live on!
Chemicals: I’ve been focusing more on the chemicals that are around us everyday and attempting to reduce this amount, so my girls are not exposed to anything that could harm them. Once you start looking, you find “nasties” everywhere – they are in our cleaning products, clothes, make up just to name a few- so this part of the journey is a long one! It’s frightening but we can make some easy changes to get started.
So why start a blog?
Since I’ve made these changes and feel so much better – I wanted to share this with people. I think there are a lot of perceptions out there about what it is to be “healthy” and people think this means you follow a sad and restrictive diet. Same goes for being “eco-friendly” – you don’t need to be a hippy or do anything extraordinary. You don’t need to be special.
You just need to be you…and want to change.
If I can make these changes – anyone can. I’m not special or different – I just decided to change. I wanted to feel healthier, happier – I knew there had to be a better way than the mainstream norm. I also wanted to be the best mum I can be.
Most important of all – I’m not perfect at any of it – I make mistakes and overlook things sometimes to save stress. But I’m doing my best at it, and that’s what I want you to do too!
I want you to “find your happy” – whatever that looks like. I have no set rules about it – I just want you to know there is a different way to do things and you must do whatever works for you and your family!
Have a look through my site (start here if you’re not sure where to begin!) and see if anything tickles your fancy. If so, sign up to my newsletter for updates or even just email me and let me know you like what you’ve found.
I hope I can help you find your happy. Let’s do it!
Oh and why “Loulou Zoo” – well two reasons – myself and Miss H have a middle name Louise, hence the “Loulou” (it was also what my brother called me as a toddler)…and the zoo…well I wanted to capture the essence of the blog, being covering a bit of everything and having fun whilst doing so!
